Clerkenwell Design Week, 24th-26th May

Next week sees to the continuation of the Clerkenwell Design Week, which began last year. It’s less of a week and more a three-day run of events and showcases in various locations in Clerkenwell. Beginning on Tuesday the 24th and ending on Thursday the 26th, Clerkenwell Design Week consists of debates, discussions, presentations, exhibitions, installations, street parties and workshops all in the name of celebrating and embracing design.

Among the many projects are a craft market near Clerkenwell Gate, ‘Be a Pin-Up’ – an art installation by Lulu Guinness, and ‘Political Objects’, a selection of projects by young designers, centred around idea of design activism.  Other projects include The Emotion Maker, The Step-Inside Bar and  the London Fieldworks’ Spontaneous City  project.

Such companies as Boss, Hands and Humanscale will host numerous parties.  Additionally, over the course of the three days, a number of bands will perform in Clerkenwell Green and Farmiloe. These bands include Boy Mandeville, Josienne Clarke and 6 Day Riot.

For those with an interest in cycling, Max Fraser from London Design Guide in collaboration with Tallyho Cycle Tours will be carrying out cycle tours. If you’re not a fan, this could be as a minor inconvenience before the tea and cake that follows it. OnOffice will be leading walking tours of traditional Clerkenwell workplaces such as Smithfields Market, a jeweller in Craft Central, Wyvern Bookbindery and an OnOffice photography exhibition at J+A Café.

The Fringe: Clerkenwell is packed with a multitude of architects, creative companies, bars and restaurants who are getting involved in the celebration of Clerkenwell Design Week.
